Re: Chef Paul's

Thank you for your phone calls. You make some really good points, but, it would really be better if you would leave your comments here, so that our readers Won't Miss Any of your points.

Chef Paul's is a Great Restaurant! This is a Perfect Example, that When the Residents of Catonsville are Offered Something Good, it Will Be Supported! It Surprises me how Often People Will Tell Me That The Residents of Catonsville Won't Support Something Decent. If You Believe That, You Need to Visit Chef Paulino's (If You Can Get In!)

I didn't Write the Liquor Laws and I Realize That Chef Paul's is Directly Across the Street from St. Timothy's Church. And Has a Liquor Licence. All I Can Say is, That I Believe That They Measure From Building to Building, not Property Lines.

You were right on When You said that "People Inside of The Church Don't Even See The Place, yet it is only 30ft and Highly Visible from The Church's Ball Fields" and, " This Summer Many People will Participate in Activities on the Ball Fields or Tennis Courts and Then Will Enjoy a Meal and Beverage at Chef Paul's". I Especially Enjoyed the Comment that " More Kids will Eat at Chef Paul's this Year than Will Eat at Any Single School Cafeteria in The Area!!!" While I don't know if that is True, I can say that I have 2 Kids that Love the Restaurant and they Eat There Often, If Not With Us, With their Friends and Their Friend's Family's.

The Current Liquor Laws Are Not About Protecting Church Goers or Children They Are About Restricting Business.

I think that a nice restaurant/bar would be a great improvement on catonsville. I often find myself heading out to Howard county for a bite to eat and it would be great to be able to support our community. I know that we have Matthew 1600 and Ships cafe - but after awhile you want something more. I cant understand why you are having a hard time getting a liquor license - it would only add to the charm of Catonsville. It truly would be great to have the feeling of "old ellicott city' in our own downtown. It is definitely possible if the people in catonsville werent so reluctant to change. Oh how I would love to be able to stroll down Frederick Road and have places to go. I have grown up in Catonsville and I have always known it as a "drive by" downtown. With only specialty stores, you stop for what you want and move on. There is nothing there to intice you to want to stay and walk the main street. This would be a wonderful dream come true, if you were able to add to the beauty of Catonsville. Don't give up on your dream! I hope one day to be able to stroll down main street with my children and have places to be able to shop and several place to choose from to grab a bite to eat or grab a coffee. Kudos to you :') I know it takes guts and like you said most people just look for the quick way to make the ole mighty buck. Hang in there

I second and third the suggestion for a Mexican eatery. How about a Chipotle? My family frequently goes out to the one on Old Dobbin Road to get our Mexican fix and it is always crowded. No liquor license necessary for this one.... LK

Have you talked to any of the "urban" developers like Obrecht (Mt. Washington) or even Streuver Brothers? They seem to be able to tuck in all types of businesses around town.

Also, how about a homegrown family, like Atwaters; I don't believe they have a liquor license in Belvedere Square...

I would love another restaurant option in Catonsville. I often end up going to Columbia/Ellicott City to find something different to eat then what is already offered in Catonsville. I would much rather stay in Catonsville. I think it is horrible that you are having such a hard time getting a liquor license. The laws are old and make no sense at all. Adding another restaurant/bar in Frederick Rd. would only help the other restaurant and bars not hurt them. Keep up the good work and good luck!

Mr. Craig Witzke, WOW you are onto some wonderful things, and what passion you have, I might add! Nothing like taking on the historics if a location and helping it evolve into an enjoyable place to grow as a community! Very exciting.
